The property and its vineyards have been in the family for several generations, each succeeding generation taking over its management. When my turn arrived, I decided to make a change in the way things were done : I wanted to make wines which revealed their exceptional terroir. The 17 hectares of Château Peyfaures are located on the slopes of the Entre-deux-Mers area and lie just opposite to that famous piece of land housing the vines responsible for the best wines of Saint Emilion.

Soils of an iron rich clay over a chalk base have been proven to make wines of intense colour and good structure which can be enjoyed young yet which have an excellent ageing potential. The grape varieties we plant are in keeping with the traditions of the region, with 85% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. In order for our wines to fully express their terroir we have been restructuring the vineyards bit by bit since 1998 with the result that now they are all planted at a density of 5500 vines per hectare.
